How To Cleanse Your Skin Effectively

Cleansing your skin is potentially one of the most important steps of your skincare routine. Oil and pollution will build up on your skin throughout the day, and if you don’t wash it away, you open your skin up to a lot of negative effects.

If you don’t cleanse your skin properly, the oil on your skin can cause you pores to block. Which in turn, brings on an increase in blemishes and irritation. No-one wants that. We just mentioned how pollution can build up on the skin, and we’re sure you’re a bit confused as to what we mean. Whilst you may not be able to see it in the air, pollution is everywhere. It’s one of the most common causes of premature ageing, as your skin has to work harder to fight it off. This is why knowing how to cleanse your skin effectively is essential. Check out our video to see how.

How To Cleanse Your Skin Effectively

Are you still looking for more information on cleansing your skin? Keep reading to see a further breakdown on how to wash your face the right way.

Step 1: Choosing The Right Cleanser

Before you even begin, you need to make sure you’re using the right product for your skin. We’ve got previous posts that break down what you need for Dry, Oily and Combination skin, check them out if you need more information. If your skin is on the oily side, go for a cleanser that helps with oil control. It will ensure you remove the excess oil and mattify your skin so you don’t end up shiny. If your skin tends to be more dry, it’s worth looking for an oil based cleanser to give your skin back added nourishment.

Step 2: Massage Into The Skin

It’s no good just putting the cleanser on your skin and washing it straight off. You get the most benefits from your cleanser if you spend at least 30 seconds massaging it into the skin. Start from the middle of your face, as this tends to be the oiliest and the area where most bacteria gathers, then move out across the rest of your face. Massage in circular motions, and try to always lift your skin up and never drag it down. Make sure you don’t forget your neck and ears! We know this might seem like a lengthy process, so if you need some additional help, why not try adding a cleansing device to your routine?

Step 3: Double Cleanse?

Are you finding that your usual cleanser still leaves your skin on the oilier side? Some of the top skincare brands in the world have introduced a double cleansing method for skin just like yours! This usually means combining an oil cleanser, with a cleansing bar, to combat any issue you could face when cleansing. We’ve broken down double cleansing in a blog, which you can read by clicking here. Otherwise, check out some of our favourites.

Step 4: Rinsing

We’ve put this as it’s own step purely due to it’s importance. Rinsing your skin with warm water might feel nice, but you could be taking your cleansing to the next level by switching this to cold water. We know you’re going to be asking why, but trust us, it helps. Using cold water helps to shock your skin and close the pores. After you’ve just spent all the time ensuring your skin and pores are squeaky clean, you don’t want to leave your pores open so they can collect more oil and dirt. Use cold water, shock them closed, and your skin will be feeling fresh.
