Lesson 14: Ultimate Skin Detox

Daily cleansing with a face wash is the basis of any good grooming routine. Grease and grime can easily build upon the skin during the day, blocking pores and trapping bacteria, so proper cleaning is essential. But if you want to go that little bit further try using Jack Black Pure Clean Daily Facial Cleanser. Specially formulated to combat pollution and oxygenate skin it’s the perfect way to start your routine with a deep-down clean.

Then follow up with Men-U Facial Moisturiser Lift. Splashed on after washing it contains a detoxifying enzyme obtained from Wheatgerm which helps neutralise any lingering toxins on the surface of the skin.

Exfoliation is Key

When detoxing skin, it’s essential to exfoliate. The Jack Black DIY Power Peel Pads are a great way to exfoliate skin, without the abrasiveness of ‘beads’. You simply remove a cotton pad and sweep across the face concentrating on greasy areas like the nose, chin and forehead. You’ll be amazed how much grime is still present on your skin, even after washing and this is the perfect way to get every last trace off.

Crucial to any detox programme is the removal of the dead skin cells that litter the surface of your skin. Not only do they block pores and make skin look dull and lifeless they also prevent products like face masks, moisturisers and anti-ageing creams from being properly absorbed. So using a face scrub can actually save you money as well as save your looks.

If you’ve used the Clarifying Lotion or Scrubbing lotion mentioned in Step 1 you can skip this step but if you prefer physical scrubs (i.e. ones with exfoliating particles), now’s the time to apply.

For a really thorough detox try Lab Series for Men Power Wash which is more like a DIY micro-dermabrasion than a mere face scrub but don’t rub too hard let the power wash do all the work. It’s especially good at detoxifying because it heats up as you massage it in, helping to open pores in the process. Lab Series Skincare For Men Invigorating Face Scrub is good too and is perfect for more sensitive skin since it exfoliates with rounded ‘micro-beads’ which won’t scratch the skin’s surface.

Another technique worth trying is Dry Brushing. Give yourself a top-to-toe skin detox by scrubbing off dead skin and stimulating circulation. Simply use gentle circular motions or short sweeping movements in the direction of your heart.

Use a Mask

Of all the skincare products at your disposal for detoxing, face masks are by far the most effective. If you want a deep-down cleanse, opt for one containing clay as this naturally draws out impurities and absorbs any excess grease.

There are plenty to choose from on Mankind but REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask is especially good as it also contains ingredients that help renew the complexion and improves skin tone. Masks are powerful things though so if you have skin that’s very dry, sensitive or easily irritated skip this step.

Being the largest organ in the body and the most visible skin has a tendency to reflect the state of your inner organs. So there’s not much point in detoxifying it, if you don’t detoxify them. Eating the right foods, cutting back on alcohol and drinking plenty of water helps, obviously, but there are several natural supplements that can help too.

Luckily, there are several gentle supplements that can help eliminate the toxins that often have an adverse affect on the appearance of your skin. Emergen-C is a best selling supplement that contains a mix of ingredients to give your skin a boost of vitamins and minerals, which in turn has a knock-on effect on the clarity of the skin. Or, if you’re trying to loose weight as well as detoxify, try Menscience Advanced CLA Lean Muscle Support Supplement which improves the passage of food through the digestive system as well as help flush out impurities and toxins.

So, you’ve completed the ultimate skin detox routine. You’re feeling more confident than ever, right? Time to check out Lesson 15: Pre-Date Grooming.
