Serious kit

5

This is a very grown-up razor. Took a couple of weeks to get used to using it but now is a real pleasure - also gave me a great excuse to stock up on a range of lotions and potions. Due to its size, shaving under the nose poses a challenge and I need to use a "toy" razor to finish this area which is a shame.

The shave of your life

This piece of kit is nothing short of weapons grade - it's fantastic. I've done 6 months service with my Vision and have pretty much worked out what to do. Attention to detail is important and makes all the difference - wash face well with plenty of warm water, lather up with a proper badger (brush) and some nice GFT shave cream (I like Violet or Limes), use short strokes, rinse often and NEVER EVER press down AT ALL - let the weight of the razor do the work, rinse face and repeat (I never need to shave against the grain with the Vision), use Zirh Soothe for a comfortable finish. Keeping the face wet seems to be the key. You're bound to get cut to start with - but concentrate on avoiding any sideways "slicing" movements and with practice it rarely happens. I defected from miserable electric shaving...buy this now - and never look back. Superb.

I look like I've been in a fight

One week on and I'm starting to get there. I was obviously being too aggressive. I read how not to press too hard and it works. still getting the odd nick but the results are impressive especially towards the end of the day. By about two in the afternoon my stubble is about the same length as it was just after shaving with the mach 3 turbo. I'm tempted to try a straight razor next but think I'll do a first aid course first!!

Not perfect

Better than the Futur, and a little better for the under nose area, it holds the blade tighter than the futur as well, one star removed again for the under nose area.

Luxurious, but....

This feels like a wonderful piece of kit, and shaves wonderfully. The best bit is the adjustability, which lets you choose between a terrifyingly close shave, and a calmer, gentler shave for those with more sensitive skin. Unfortunately this adjustability is also the only problem I've had with it, as it can get gunked up, and after a year, it doesn't have the range of movement it used to. Be prepared to clean it out (if, unlike me, you have the Allen key needed to disassemble it). It also suffers from a wide guard, which can make shaving under the nose rather more difficult than it needs to be. However, in all it is a lovely piece of kit that reminds you what luxury a wet shave can be.

Another Level Up

I started out with the Merkur HD and then their Slant Bar razor. These are non-adjustable the HD is a bit tame the Slant much more aggresive and I found it cut me too easily. So I tried the Vision and got the adjustment spot on after 2 shaves. I cannot believe it - barely any cuts with this razor in 2 months use. I bought Trumpers Rose shave cream at the same time which is also wonderful. The build quality and finish is very good. Very easy to use once you fathom the translated instruction leaflet. No allen key required on current model. Very quick to change the blade - it drops out and to take apart for cleaning. Looks huge to start with but very nice to use and good weight and balance. I got good shaves even with dirt cheap 'Laser' brand blades better than with Slant bar.

Expensive but worth it...

Not the cheapest razor available with good reason. The build quality is excellent and with practice can shave easily as well, if not better than a mach 3. I have had some trouble with the razor at first but after finding the right soap combined with the right blade (Wilkinson Sword) I get the best shave I have ever had. The switch to Wilkinson Sword was forced upon me, I went on holiday without any blades and could only get Wilkinson Sword and, for me, they're better than the merkur at £4 for 10. If you have trouble with this razor try as many combinations of blade and soap as possible, it takes time but it's worth it!

Dangerous!

Yes this thing does gives a good clean shave - but no better than a new Mach3. However, if you buy this make sure you get yourself salt stick as this thing really should come with a Government Health warning. It nearly took half my chin off.

The Emperor's new clothes

Yes I fell for the hype. I love well-engineered things, so after seeing the Vision 2000 showcased in one of the Sunday supplements, I logged on and read the reviews. I had to have one.I've been shaving for about 45 years and started with a cut-throat that my father gave me. Over the years I moved on to a standard safety razor and then to a Wilkinson with an adjustment the same as that on the Vision 2000 - only this cost about a fiver in today's money. It was a good shave. I then discovered multi-blades and should have stuck with them. The Vision 2000 is just an over-engineered and cumbersome safety razor. I'm back on the multi-blades - bliss.
