I used to dread shaving, and suffered red rashy ingrown hairs on my neck. I'd shave a maximum of once or twice a week because of irritation. Now I can't wait to the morning!! I agree...its an event! It requires some focus, but I mastered it on my second shave and now when I pick up my old Mach3 it feels like a toy. I have no regrets. The blade costs are a lot lower so it will pay for itself. But most of all...I feel more manly!

Buy this with a good soap and a badger brush and you will have the shave of a lifetime! It gives me the closest shave I have ever experienced. Yes, it is an expensive investment, but you will not regret it. Yes, I have read that people experience nicks and cuts, but if you do it correctly you shouldn't have any problems whatsoever. My advice is: 1)Take a shave after the shower 2) Splash more water in your face. 3) Apply soap with your badger brush 4) Slowly and without applying any pressure whatsoever start shaving. Hold your razor in a 30 degree angle on your skin and shave with hair the first time. 5) Re - apply soap. 6) Shave again, but this time in the opposite direction. 7)Apply aftershave balm. As long as you take your time (it will take you a good 10 - 15 minutes) and don't apply any pressure but let the weight of the razor work for you, you will have a great time.

Expensive but all the best things are....

Hard to adjust to at first but that's Gillett's social conditioning, and I don't mean the type that comes in a bottle! Its better, closer and long term cheaper than the Boots gents selection..plus how often do you get exited about shaving, the ceremony of the daily tedious scraping of your face soon becomes an enjoyable 5 minutes in the morning long drag...Buy one not because you can, do it just because you should...Its not a shave its an event!

This is an excellent razor. You have to find the blade that suits your personal preference. The shave is perfect everytime.

Luxurious Shave

I needed something a little more heavy duty than your average disposable razor, as I have struggled for years to try to get a nice clean smooth shave, particularly under the chin around the neck area. First attempt with the Merkur was painful and left my skin tight, red, and cut to pieces. It took three or four attempts to get used to the razor and find the correct setting to use for my skin. Each shave I get more skilled, and the shave gets better. Once you master the use of this razor you will not get any cuts or irritation, but be warned, it is 'Razor' sharp though, I for one wouldn't have it any other way.

Expensive, but looks it , feels it and it's worth it!

For this money you get a beautifully engineered bit of kit. Forget any preconceived ideas from mainstream plasticy razors. This is the biz. However, expect to undergo a learning period. It took me a week to sort out my technique and the blade adjustment for my heavy beard. Instructions (and I use the term loosely) could be better. However, now I have the closest (ask my wife!), most comfortable shaves ever with blades a fraction of the price of Mach3. Superb!

I have had my Vision 2000 for about 8 months now. For the person who says a Mach 3 (or a Fusion for that matter) gives as good of a shave I say you are out of your mind. I am a professional Barber and I use a straight on my clients everyday. Even though a straight is sharp it will not give as close of a shave in my opinion IF you use the Japanese Feather blades. They are the sharpest blades on the planet bar none so be CAREFUL.

A wonderfully made razor. As some people have said, don't expect to use this like a disposable. You don't press hard and you get a close shave by letting the weight of the razor do the work and by having more than one pass. I would say you should leave it as least aggressive setting and shave twice with the grain only for the first week and then go against/across the grain and/or play with setting after that. At about 15p a blade from the right places and with much better skin (no more ingrowing hairs) this would be a great long term buy. Although considering the price I would say that possibly someone who has never used a double edged razor before would be better off with a Merker first to learn with. Or maybe as you can get a plastic

Terrific product. The best razor ever. But take care until you get used to it: learn to let the razor do the work.

I've used the Vision for a number of months now - sure it takes some getting used to and you will knick yourself in the process, but its worth it as the shave it produces is second to none. Once you have gotten used to it you will never and I mean never go back to Mach 3. Also the blades are cheaper so it means that it also saves you money. I'd also suggest that you use a shaving brush with it as it seems to deliver a better shave.
