Switching Up Your Skincare for Winter Months

As colder weather kicks in, it quickly takes its toll on your skin.  Wind, rain and other environmental aggressors will damage your complexion, so it’s important to adjust your skincare routine accordingly. This means switching out your lightweight serums for richer moisturisers and adding in some extra skin protection. Our skincare for winter product recommendations below will help prevent dryness and chapping.

Winter Skincare Tips

Keep Your Lips Covered

No matter the weather, you should always wear a lip balm. However, in winter it’s even more important to use as harsh winds and icy air will dry them out even more. A creamy lip balm will moisturise whilst acting as a barrier against the elements, preventing painful peeling, chapping and cracking. Some of our favourites include the Jack Black Intense Therapy and the Aesop Lip Cream.

Stay Hydrated

When it’s cold, moisture tends to evaporate from the skin, leaving it dry and dehydrated. A rich, creamy moisturiser will help you to maintain healthy levels whilst preventing existing moisture from escaping. We recommend the Omorovicza Balancing Moisturiser or the Lab Series Pro LS All-In-One Treatment. This is because they soothe irritation and redness as well as have anti-ageing benefits, reducing fine lines and wrinkles.

Protect Your Eyes

The skin around the eye area is incredibly delicate and sensitive, meaning that it needs to be protected. A high quality eye cream should be patted into the skin gently using your ring finger both morning and night for ultimate defence. Also tackling dark circles, puffiness and wrinkles, it will brighten your eyes to help you appear more awake. You can also click here for our step by step tutorial on how to apply eye cream.

Replenish Your Complexion

Even though you’ve kept your skin protected throughout the day, it will still be vulnerable if it hasn’t been sheltered away indoors. Using a deep hydrating face mask once or twice a week will replenish all of the lost moisture whist helping you to relax. Wearing a face mask allows the skincare properties to soak into the skin for long-lasting results. The BarberPro and Mizon masks are great options.

Recover Overnight

One of the best ways to help your skin recover is to wear a night cream. As your skin cells regenerate through the night, you’ll be able to get the most out of your skincare. Able to dramatically improve your skin whilst you sleep, you’ll wake up with restored moisture and a brighter appearance. We recommend the Sukin or Antipodes night treatments as they’re packed with vitamins for a powerful health boost.

Clear Your Pores

After wearing an array of thick, rich creams and other skin-protecting products, it’s important to make sure that your skin breathes at the end of the day. Make sure to unblock your pores with an effective cleanser such as the Ole Henriksen Foaming Cleanser or the Murad Clarifying Cleanser. These will remove any product build up as well as natural dirt, excess oil and pollution for a fresh complexion.

Remember to Exfoliate

Due to the cold, winter weather, your skin will likely peel slightly no matter what you do. To keep it healthy, slough off the dead skin cells once or twice a week with a facial exfoliator. This will reveal a fresh layer of healthy skin which you can effectively protect with creams and serums. We recommend an exfoliant such as the COSRX Exfoliating Cleanser or the Alpha-H Gentle Daily Exfoliant.
