Having great hair is never straightforward, well, at least for us it’s not. At this time of year we have a lot more to contend with, the wind can cause unintentional volume and your main aim may be to keep your pompadour in place. We called on our friends from Closed On Monday to help us get to the bottom of some of our concerns once and for all.
Whether you’re wondering what’s the best way to style your hair, or how to control the dreaded ‘hat hair’, Closed On Monday took to Twitter to give us some advice. Their resident barber Sam was on hand to pass on his advice from being in the industry, and we’re sure you’ll pick up a tip or two.
Let's start things off from our end.... Q1: What’s your best #tip to achieve the perfect pompadour? #MKxCOM @ClosedOnMonday pic.twitter.com/tYQ6P0VUos— Mankind (@mankindcouk) October 24, 2016

Closed On Monday mentioned that it’s all about the pre-blow dry. Apply a little Deluxe Pomade to towel dried hair and use the product as a blow-drying product. This will help when creating the pompadour shape. Finish with Strong Pomade.
Pretty straight forward, right? You’ll have the perfect pompadour in no time. It’s essential to use a pre-styler to help lock the shape in place.
Q2: What’s the best way to tame frizz on curly hair? #MKxCOM @ClosedOnMonday— Mankind (@mankindcouk) October 24, 2016
Q2: What’s the best way to tame frizz on curly hair? #MKxCOM @ClosedOnMonday
This answer is short and sweet – An oil based product is the answer; it will eliminate frizz by coating the hair and leaving a frizz-free smooth finish.
You could try using the Closed On Monday Deluxe Wax for curly hair, as it’s oil-based it’ll work perfectly at taming frizz.
Q3: Any tips for making fine hair appear thicker? Is there anything we should be asking the hairdresser for? #MKxCOM @ClosedOnMonday— Mankind (@mankindcouk) October 24, 2016

Using a matte non-shiny product will help this. Closed On Monday Matte Paste would be perfect. The hair needs to have a matte finish as when hair is wet it looks thinner. Also, sea salt spray is good for adding volume to fine hair.
Try adding in sea salt spray before drying your hair, to give it a bit of added volume. Then finish with a matte paste to prevent the hair looking shiny and thin.
Q4: We all like to wear hats in the colder months to escape the chill. Do you have any tips on fixing ‘hat hair’? #MKxCOM @ClosedOnMonday pic.twitter.com/Yy89PNWSsn— Mankind (@mankindcouk) October 24, 2016

There’s no easy solution to “hat hair”. If you spend time on a good blow-dry, focusing on the roots, making sure the roots are going the way you want your hair to go, you will stand a much better chance of the style looking good when the hat comes off!
Here it’s clear to see the importance of pre-styling. If you set your hair right from the start, you can ensure your style is as durable as possible. We also find it’s good to put a bit of hairspray on a brush, and comb out your style to add volume back.
Q5: How would you suggest #styling thicker #hair, so that it doesn’t look too heavy? @ClosedOnMonday #MKxCOM— Mankind (@mankindcouk) October 24, 2016

If your hair is thick; use a thick conditioner and a go for a flatter style. finish with an oil based product. Textured styles will always disguise thick heavy hair, giving a softer appearance.
Ask your barber to thin your hair out, using thinning scissors. A combed-over style would work great for someone with thicker hair, as additional volume will emphasise the thickness.
Q6: Okay, the last question (time flies when you're having fun, huh?) - Do you have any top tips for going grey gracefully? @ClosedOnMonday— Mankind (@mankindcouk) October 24, 2016

If you want to disguise the grey in your hair, speak to your barber first! Try not to use a very dark colour, they can look unnatural. Usually combing a little of your natural colour through the top and leaving a few grey hairs at the temples and sides will look natural.
The common consensus on Twitter regarding this question was to embrace it! Many celebrities rock the ‘salt and pepper’ look, and it’s definitely a good fashion statement. Closed On Mondays tip will help to emphasise this, without your hair looking unnatural.
There you have it – some of the most common hair concerns answered. Thanks to Closed On Monday for taking part and providing us with great advice. We’re confident we’ll be able to wear a hat through the winter now, as we know how to prevent ‘hat hair’,
