Wax for those who want to look natural but still have good hold.
I usually use a few products at the same time but over the past year or so I have used Layrite to manage growing hair that is pretty fine. The problem is that it moulds your hair rigid and tends to look over styled - all the time. I bought this product along with Baxter of California Wax Pomade (see separate review) to compare and see if I could find the perfect compromise of a more natural but firm hold.. Firstly the jar provides much hilarity for my wife. I keep telling her it's not pronounced the way she chooses to but she refuses to listen. The product - it's pretty solid in the jar and you do not need a great deal to style your hair. I use a pea size amount and rub it together to warm it up. Rather than plastering it over my hair I tend to run my fingers through it - after parting the hair - and then shape. It does a very good job with very little. It is manageable and allows a fair amount of play. I usually use it on blow dried hair but it works on damp just as well with a more relaxed feel. It is a slightly odd combination. It doesn't feel over rigid but you can - if it takes your fancy - direct your hair in any direction you choose and it stays in place. It combs easily as well. It gives you a not over firm hold that allows a less structured look. And it lasts. It is a pomade you can forget about. You can push your hair back or move it around a bit during the day and it still does the job. If you want to firm it up a bit a bit of water does the job. The smell is unmemorable which I'm happy with. I want my aftershave to be the scent not clash with my hair product. My wife really approves. She prefers the slight;ly ruffled look and I like the fact that the ruffle is actually held in place. Expensive? Not really - it will last 6 months or longer in rotation with other products. I now use it as my 'go to' wax - along with the Baxter - and it does a lovely job. Are there similar products? Of course but I hadn't found one that was quite so adaptable before. All in all put the hype aside and you will find a really nice wax that does what it says on the packaging; has more flexibility than I though and whist not all day staying power it does last for a work day and a few drinks after work.

Not that strong hold
I have read many reviews and most love this product, so I thought I give it a try. Like others I have tried many different products and most of those products just were not good enough. I had high hopes for claymation. Unfortunately, it did not meet my expectations. I have medium long, thick, Asian hair. The hold is just not good enough. It is not super high hold. If you are looking for high hold I would suggest Revlon Style Masters Creator Matt Clay. The product does give good texture and volume. Or you could use this product and use a bit of hair spray for the hold. In my opinion this product is overrated and way too expensive. There are many products cheaper that can achieve basically the same results as claymation. Save your money and get something else. It is not the holy grail, which I thought it was due to all the reviews. I guess they don't have thick hair.

This product is great for people looking for that natural matte look with a hold that'll last you all day! I would recommend this product to be used after you have blow dried ure hair into a brief position you are looking for. It creates a great hold, but still allowing you to run your fingers through your hair, so it doesnt make it too "fixed"! A lot better than the by villain products like gold digger. Best product ive used , was using layrite pomade for a while. I liked it but didnt like the shine . wasnt enough to put me off but i decided i would like something more matte , a more natural finish. And this is great, almost invisible when you rub it into your hands but the hold is great and its not hard its flexible. Leaves it with a natural shine when hair is slightly wet, but not a hardened shine. Very impressed !
