This week in London, GQ Magazine hosted their ninth annual GQ Grooming Awards. Quite possibly the biggest grooming event in England, Mankind HQ were lucky enough to get invited, and what a day it was! In association with Harvey Nichols, we got together to find out the best in male grooming categories, including moisturisers, shampoos, fragrances and more.
We arrived early in the morning, to the lovely Avenue Restaurant, where we were presented with a great breakfast spread. Fresh fruit, french pastries and bacon canapes – what a better way to start the day? Well, add fresh coffee and you’re onto a winner (which they kindly did).
From Left to Right: Richard, Eric, Roger, Garcon and Matthew
If you thought last years judges were impressive, wait until you find out the judges for this year! Forming a team of 9, Levison Wood, Matthew Zorpas, Garcon Jon, Richard Biedul, Roger Frampton, Eric Underwood, Conrad Quilty-Harper, Neil Moodie and Jessica Punter tried and tested the extensive list of nominated brands. From bloggers to ballet dancers, photographers and explorers, it’s obvious to see that the judging panel ticks all profiles of the modern man. Can we take a moment to appreciate Matthew Zorpas’ khaki suit?
Previous judge, Jack Guinness, hosted the awards, and what a funny guy he is. Some quick wit, a stylish suit, and a perfectly groomed beard gave him the perfect package to win over the audience and carry off the awards with flair. Packed full of laughs, the awards breakfast was a great morning, which we’d definitely love to attend again.
With 21 winners all together, so many incredible brands got the recognition they deserve. We have two particular favourites though. Elemis Pro-Collagen Marine Cream, which won the Best New Anti-Ageing Cream, and Aesop Herbal Deodorant, which won the Best New Deodorant.
There is also a full list of all the winners, over on GQ. Make sure you check them out!
Congratulations to every brand who won, and great work for everyone nominated! We look forward to seeing you all again next year.
When I started improving my grooming routine, I was overwhelmed by the plethora of products to choose from. I quickly learnt that grooming doesn’t have to be complicated. My aim is to give you an understandable breakdown of skincare, haircare and general grooming.
