MK Editor’s Picks: Sensitive Skin Routine

Some people are blessed with the type of complexion that can take the toll of trying different products whenever they fancy. However, some of us are not so blessed – and a sudden change in routine can flare up all kinds of skin issues. If you’re one of those amongst us who has sensitive skin concerns then don’t worry, all hope is not lost. You can easily tailor your skincare routine to suit your needs.  All it takes is a little bit of research and a touch of patience to find the skincare products for you.

Caring for Your Sensitive Skin

Cleansing

Having a go-to gentle cleanser is incredibly important. Not only does it keep down the bacteria, which can cause your skin to react badly and flare up, it also prevents dead skin cells from trapping dirt within your pores. However, it’s important to not scrub your face vigorously with a physical exfoliant to remove dirt and impurities, as this will only make sensitive skin worse. Instead, use a gentle yet effective cleanser which doesn’t leave your skin feeling scrubbed, stripped and sore. Try to avoid cleansers which foam too much, as this can irritate your skin, and opt for gentle oil cleansers which will remove daily dirt and lock in moisture.

Moisturising

Keeping up a daily moisturising regime is extremely necessary. Not only does a moisturiser keep your skin supple and soft, but you can also prevent the signs of ageing with each use. After cleansing your skin, you may have stripped some of the natural oils from the skin surface and this can result in a tight or dry feeling at times. Using a moisturiser will help to restore the moisture levels that have been lost. Just try and avoid scented moisturisers as the fragrance can be known to aggravate your skin.

Protection

Even though protecting your skin from UV rays is important for everybody, it’s even more so if you suffer with sensitive skin. The sun can cause a large amount of irreparable damage from premature ageing, to more extreme skin conditions. Even if you think the weather is too dull to warrant an SPF, you will be surprised at how many UV rays can creep through the clouds! Ensure your day moisturiser contains SPF to kill two birds with one stone when it comes to protecting and perfecting your complexion.

Mankind Recommends

Bulldog Sensitive Face Wash is an all-natural cleanser which removes dirt and debris from your pores. It also has skin hydrating properties to prevent irritation and is an absolute must-have. In terms of moisturisers, the Mr Natty Save Ya Own Skin Moisturiser is formulated especially for dry and sensitive skin and made with naturally anti-allergenic ingredients. The anti-inflammatory properties of this moisturiser also help to calm nicks and burns after shaving for smooth skin. The final step of the perfect sensitive skin routine is sun protection. The Dermalogica Super Sensitive Shield SPF 30 is free from chemicals, artificial colours and artificial fragrances which can aggravate sensitive skin. Not only does this protect your skin from harmful UV rays, it also adds extra moisture and strengthens connective tissue to keep your skin in tip top condition.

With any change in your skincare routine it is important to change steps gradually, so you can detect any causes of issues as quickly as possible if you suffer an adverse effect.
