This month, we’re celebrating the male grooming industry and wanted to reach out to Perricone MD to ask them about their brand and key grooming trends.

Dr. Nicholas Perricone founded the brand 20 years ago based on his now accepted theory that cellular inflammation is at the heart of the aging process. We believe that healthy living is beautiful living and our products work by improving the health of the skin which leads to more beautiful skin.

We compete in a market loaded with talented global competitors that have huge budgets and nearly unlimited resources. What inspires me every day is that we have to work smarter and different if we are going to stay ahead as scientific leaders of the industry.
Science is the currency of ideas at Perricone MD. All our ideas start with a scientific hypothesis about how we can improve the health and beauty of the skin. Science guides our thinking and is the proof behind what we do.
I think its a combination of men becoming more health conscious and the competition inherent in the rise of the “photo-ready” world we inhabit today. I believe men see their peers posting on social media and they are noticing how they look, reading comments of others commenting on how they look, and that taps into our competitive drive to take better care of ourselves.
Products that create an “instant benefit” of blurring and softening using pigments like mica but without colour. I think this type of product has a broad appeal to men who are looking for a boost in their appearance without anyone knowing they are wearing a product.
Men and women’s skin are absolutely different in terms of their biology as well as the demands they put their skin through every day (shaving versus make-up). This challenge is that most research has focused on female skin because they are largest piece of the skincare market. We are starting to see more research coming out of universities that is looking at the differences between male and female skin, but research on men’s skin still has a long way to go. For men in particular, shaving can cause both visible and invisible inflammation. Men should be using at least one product a day that has anti-inflammatory ingredients.
Find your north star and stay true to it. The world has become so fast that we can lose who we are if we are constantly trying to be what others want from us.
I love Cold Plasma. In my job I am always trying new products, so its hard to stay loyal, but Cold Plasma is the one product I use everyday. Its a very lightweight serum in a jar that is loaded up with anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, and peptides that pretty much addresses all the signs of ageing.
We are just getting ready to launch our first men’s grooming line based on the soothing and anti-oxidant power of phytocannabinoids. Cannabis extracts have been used for generations to treat a variety of ailments. Our skin actually has something called the endocannabinoid system that is very important for keeping skin healthy.
