Alternative Summer Songs

Voxtrot // The Start of Something

Not one to be missed off your summer playlist. Even when clouds start to darken the sky and rain is on its way, pop on a little bit of Voxtrot to put a summer spring back in to your step. For fans of The Smiths and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, their popular track The Start of Something dusts off the winter cobwebs ready for t-shirt weather.

Tilly and the Wall // Bad Education

A band which has a tap dancer instead of a drummer… Need we say more? These happy-go-lucky chaps hail from Omaha, Nebraska and each song is upbeat and perfect to listen to in the sunny weather. Bad Education is a clap along track which fills us with the joys of summertime.

The Shins // We Will Become Silhouettes

As Natalie Portland states in the film Garden State – The Shins will change your life. If you’re unfamiliar with the band, then you need to hear this song; if you don’t find yourself singing along to the ‘la-la-la-la’s’ then you’ll definitely find your foot tapping along to the tempo.

The Cure // Friday I’m In Love

There’s nothing like gearing up for the weekend when the sun is shining, so Friday; we definitely are in love with you throughout the sunny months. No summer songs playlist would be complete without the new wave, post punk, goth rock tones of Robert Smith and the lads.

Beach Boys // Good Vibrations

The 60’s was a great time for music and a great time for fun in the sun (so we hear… we’re not quite that old). The Beach Boys knew how to throw a good beach party or two, and when we hear classic songs like Good Vibrations it makes us want to dust off our seasonal Hawaiian shirt and throw on our trusty flip flops once and for all.

Major fan of scented candles, Make Up brushes and Highlighter. I’m always on the hunt for those Holy Grail products and my dressing table is covered in more beauty products than I like to admit. As an adopted Northerner originally from Brighton, I spend most my days wondering what all this rain is about. My hair isn’t grateful for the move. Currently loving: NIOD Photography Fluid
